The man who made the drone that saved an American family from a plane crash said the whole thing was a lot of fun and that he was “not ashamed” of how it went.
The plane crashed in the Mojave Desert in August 2015, killing five people.
Mr Dang, a flight engineer from Ohio, built a drone that flew above the wreckage and released its payload.
“You know, it’s kind of like flying a balloon or something,” he told the Los Angeles Times, referring to the way the drone floats.
“There’s no wind, so you’re going to go in the direction you want to go and it’s just going to hover and do whatever you want.”
Mr Dung built his drone with a camera, GPS and a GPS-equipped GPS receiver.
He told ABC News that the drone was powered by a GoPro camera.
“It’s a very simple thing,” he said.
“You take a GoPro, put it on your shoulder and a camera on your head, and you start recording.”
So, you know, I didn’t have to think about that.
“He said he had already taken pictures of his daughter’s funeral from the cockpit of the plane.”
I was like, ‘Oh my gosh, this is amazing’,” he said of the experience.”
Just flying around and trying to get a better angle and not getting a view of the wreckage, I was really enjoying it.
“Mr Mung said he was impressed by how the drone handled.”
When you see this drone, you’re like, wow,” he says.”
And then when you see the people who did it and how hard they worked and what they had to go through to make it happen, you think, wow, this must be something that can actually happen.
“The pilot of the aircraft Mr Mung was in the cockpit on the day the plane went down said the drone flew above him and the family and was flying as they were flying.”
That’s one of the best experiences I’ve ever had in my life,” he wrote on Instagram.”
This is a great day and I have nothing but positive things to say about all of you and what you’re doing.
“God bless you all and give us all the happiness and strength to carry on the fight against this terrible disease.”
The family of the four people killed in the plane crash has since filed a lawsuit against Mr Meng.
The suit claims that Mr Mwang did not have a proper safety certificate and was not qualified to operate the drone.
